Hello! I’m Andrea Hatchett. If you’ve called our office for information, we have probably already “met” and I’ve heard some of your story so here’s a little bit about me and my story.
My husband Chris and I actually grew up locally together going to the same school and church but life took us separate ways for almost a decade after graduating from high school. We reconnected in 2008 and have been married since the spring of 2009. We have 2 beautiful little girls, ages 4yrs and 1yr. Both of our girls were born at home under the loving care of Gentle Beginnings Midwives.
I initially found Gentle Beginnings Birth Center back in 2012 when I found myself newly pregnant with our firstborn. I whole-heartedly believe that God designed a women’s body to deliver babies naturally so I had always envisioned having my children outside of the hospital so I called to set up a tour.
Upon my initial consultation, I quickly fell in love with the loving atmosphere and the incredible midwives at GBBC and I became very passionate about out of hospital unmedicated childbirth throughout that pregnancy.
I had my first homebirth in August of 2013. It didn’t go quite as planned as my sweet adventurous girl had changed positions at some point during my labor and was frank breech presentation (bottom first) but thankfully, I was still able to deliver her at home. Both my husband and I were very impressed with how quickly the midwives acted on their feet and how professional they were in a seemingly stressful moment to ensure the safe delivery of my baby as well as the exceptional postpartum care I received.
Fast forward less than a year and I found that a door had opened up and I was asked to join the Gentle Beginnings team working in the office. This opportunity came at a time in my life when I needed it most. I happily worked in the office full-time falling even more in love with the birth world for 2 years.
Then last summer, we had another baby and this time, I got to have my redemptive water birth (although she came posterior!) I got to catch my own baby with only my husband, mom and my birth team by my side.
Working here at Gentle Beginnings, blesses me on a daily basis as I get to share my passion with all the families that walk thru our doors.
Whether that is by sharing my own personal experiences and enthusiasm for natural childbirth, being a cheerleader for a new mom who is overcoming breastfeeding obstacles, or being a listening ear for a pregnant client who just need a friend to commiserate with them about pregnancy nausea or fatigue. Between my 2 girls as well as now 3 years working with midwives, we’ve been thru it all (and seen it all) and I love that in working here, the Lord is able to use me to encourage our clients that they are not alone in whatever they may be going thru.
As someone who brings over a decade of Client Services experience to the team, I thrive at multitasking and administrative endeavors however I also love people so working here has been the best of both worlds for me. There is always something new and exciting going on here. Whether we are clearing the day because everyone is running to a birth or we are getting to love on brand new babies, I take each day in stride and make it my goal to serve our clients and midwives in whatever way I can with attentiveness, respect, enthusiasm and kindness.
The dynamic of choosing a midwife for my care provider was so warm and accessible throughout both of my pregnancies and my postpartum care that I love sharing that experience with other people who may be brand new to this option.
When I’m not at the office, you can catch me perusing the aisles at Hobby Lobby or spending a lazy Saturday reading books with my 2 little girls. I also love going to the theatre as in what seems like a former life, I received a BA in Mass Communications with a Musical Theatre Concentration from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts.
If you have any questions about the midwifery model of care or would like to set up a tour with one of our lovely midwives, please give me a call. I can’t wait to get to know you and hear your story too!
